Design & Comfort

The XM5s represent a complete design overhaul. Gone is the folding mechanism of previous generations. Instead, Sony opted for a sleek, streamlined look with a seamless, hinge-less adjustment system. The headphones feel more premium than ever with soft leather-like earpads and a well-padded headband.

At 250 grams, they`re lightweight and comfortable for extended listening sessions. We wore them for 4+ hours without fatigue. However, the non-folding design means the carrying case is significantly larger than the XM4`s case — a drawback for frequent travelers.

Noise Cancellation Performance

This is where the XM5s truly shine. Sony`s new Integrated Processor V1 and QN1 HD Noise Canceling Processor work together to deliver the most effective ANC we`ve ever tested. The improvement is most noticeable in the mid-to-high frequency range — voices, keyboard clatter, and coffee shop chatter are nearly eliminated.

The auto-optimization feature adjusts noise cancellation based on your environment in real-time. On an airplane, the XM5s reduced engine roar to a barely audible whisper. In a busy office, colleagues conversations fade into the background. Simply put, nothing blocks noise better right now.

Sound Quality

The XM5s deliver a warm, detailed sound signature that`s engaging without being fatiguing. Bass is punchy and well-controlled without muddying the mids. Vocals are clear and present, while treble is crisp without harshness.
